Architecture workshop, presentation of Platonic solids in Axonometry and Isometry

In the architecture workshops, students will deepen and understand Platonic solids by describing, drawing and understanding them in axonometry and isometry. They will learn basic concepts related to them in relation to the construction and metaphor of solid forms defined by Plato. He narrates in the dialogue "Timaios" the relationship between the construction of form and the materialization of spirit through the plane and solid geometry of five solid geometric bodies, manifestations of the number 3, 4, and 5 built and expressed in volume by triangle, square and pentagon, the only geometric structures with equal angles and all edges:

  • tetrahedron: 4 faces, 6 edges, 4 corners, consisting of 4 equilateral triangles;
  • hexahedron: 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 corners, consisting of 6 squares;
  • octahedron: 8 faces, 12 edges, 6 corners; consists of 8 equilateral triangles;
  • dodecahedron: 12 faces, 30 edges and 20 corners, consisting of 12 pentagons;
  • icosahedron: 20 faces, 30 edges and 12 corners, consisting of 20 equilateral triangles.

Architecture workshop Presentation of Platonic solids in Axonometry and Isometry is part of the Interdimensional Spaces project developed by ARTDENDUM Association (project manager: Horațiu Cristian Pavelescu).
