Ensemble Intercontemporain, founded in 1976 by the renowned French composer Pierre Boulez, will perform a concert as part of the George Enescu International Festival in Timișoara on September 3. The ensemble is known for promoting and performing contemporary music, being exclusively dedicated to this genre. Ensemble Intercontemporain comprises over 30 professional musicians specialized in contemporary and experimental music interpretation. The ensemble has toured worldwide and recorded a series of critically acclaimed albums. Their repertoire includes works by the most important composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Boulez, Stockhausen, Ligeti, Berio, Xenakis, and Grisey.

The concert performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain is organized by the Music Scene Association, part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara European Capital of Culture in 2023," and is funded through the Overborder Culture + programme, implemented by the Timiș County Center for Culture and Art, with funding allocated from the state budget through Ministry of Culture.
