On August 22 and 23, we gather at Liebling Middle School for an education program that intertwines Earth Sciences with contemporary artistic expression.
The program brings to the forefront educational workshops meant to inspire young people, with Eduard Necula as their guide and coordinator. During these workshops, participants will have the opportunity to build their own seismometers, fundamental devices for monitoring and recording seismic movements. Concurrently, under the careful guidance of Adina Rău and Mimi Ciora, a workshop will take place aimed at creating a macroseismic map that brings to life the earthquakes that have occurred in the Banat region. These maps will go far beyond their simple role as visual representations, as they will be reinterpreted in an artistic manner that will emphasize not only seismic events but also their essential elements within the context of contemporary art.
The goal of this event is to facilitate continuous non-formal learning, with an emphasis on concepts in the field of geosciences and how they can be integrated into a broader context. In the second part of the workshop, Adina Rău will coordinate the "Seismo Lab" workshop, in which she will share examples of best practices and methods for teachers interested in integrating relevant content from the field of seismology into their lessons.
The Liebling program aims to create a bridge between scientific knowledge and artistic creativity, with the objective of developing a deep understanding of seismic phenomena and stimulating learning through practical experiences and contemporary artistic expression.
THE SPOTS FOR THESE WORKSHOPS HAVE BEEN FILLED.
The workshops are conducted by members of GeoEduLab – the Applied Geophysics, Prevention, and Education Laboratory within the National Institute for Research and Development in Physics of the Earth (INCDFP), which has one of its areas of action focused on applying research methods and tools in education. It is also part of the ReCoNnect2 – European Researchers' Night pre-event series, a European project in which INCDFP joins forces with five other research institutes and four universities.
