The operetta "Grüsst mein Banat" by Emmerich Bartzer will celebrate its world premiere in the Great Hall of the Timișoara National Theatre on October 28, 2023, starting with 19:00 o’clock.
It will be a world premiere, because although the work was completed in 1939 by the Lovrin-born musician in Hatzfeld, it did not make it to the premiere scheduled for the same year in Vienna, which was cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II. The operetta has three acts and is orchestrated and arranged by the Timisoara conductor Andreas Schein.
The plot deals with a special Banat theme: the sending home of children from noble families in Vienna. Since the inter-war period, children from Vienna were sent to the Banat's Saxon families to recuperate. Naturally, as a result, friendships developed. Several historical treatises have already been published about this. Such children were also sent to the countryside during the Second World War, both in the Banat and in other countries, partly because it was believed that city children were safer in the countryside.
The "Grüsst mein Banat" production is a charity event of the Rotary Club of Timisoara to support the Paediatric Cardiology Surgical Section at the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Timisoara (Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases). Specifically, the club aims to support the professional training of doctors, so that in the future, also in Timisoara to regularly perform surgery interventions on children with heart malformations. The aim is to increase the number of such kind of operations 40 operations annually to 250 operations each year.
