The artistic duo Monotremu, formed in Timișoara in 2010 by Laura Borotea and Gabriel Boldiș, stand out for their ironic-critical artistic practices towards the shortcomings of Romanian society, a context and a civilization which, like the ambiguous zoological category of monotremes, a term that inspired the pseudonym under which the two work, is located in an area of uncertain classification and status: somewhere between mammals and birds, in the case of monotremes, somewhere between East and West, in the case of Romania, a separate class, primitive according to certain criteria, but, rather, unclassifiable and unintegrated into predetermined structures. Since 2012, he has been developing Minitremu, a creative laboratory that facilitates access to contemporary art for children and young people.
