Casa Artelor (House of Arts) is a multidisciplinary cultural center that offers exhibition spaces and performances to artists, thus offering the Timișoara public a wide variety of cultural events. Casa Artelor belongs to the Timiș County Directorate for Culture, subordinate to the Ministry of Culture.
Casa Artelor has been operating in its current form since 2006 in the premises of the Timiș County Directorate for Culture, in the building given to use after its restoration by the architect Şerban Sturdza.
The building on Bishop Augustin Pacha street no. 8 had its first owner in 1752, Johann Lechner, a civil purser, and in 1828 the owner was Klobuschitz Joseph. Currently, it has the status of a historical monument building, being protected according to the specific legislation.
In the period 1791-1947, the building served as the headquarters of printing houses, publishing houses, newspaper editorial offices, libraries.
In 1888 Uhrmann Heinrich prints the Romanian weekly "Foia de Duminică" (The Sunday Paper)
On March 15, 1815, Josef Klapka founded the first public library with a reading room in the Habsburg Empire.
