The Wooden Churches Association was created in 2021, as a continuation of the project „Wooden Churches” that aimed to inventory and document the wooden churches heritage in Romania, with the purpose of diagnosing their conservation status, in order to further prioritize eventual interventions/restorations. The project is now running within the framework of the Association, alongside other projects, like the restoration of the Wooden Church in Povergina and „Wooden Mirror II”, a cultural project that aims to promote the cultural wooden heritage in Timișoara, as the city is now holding the title of European Capital of Culture in 2023. Another objective of the association is to mediate between local stakeholders willing to get involved in the process of documenting, promoting and safeguarding the wooden churches, in order to preserve and enhance the cultural legacy in their communities.
