F-SIDES Cineclub is a monthly cineclub dedicated to films directed by women, organized by the Room 2046 Association in cinemas and alternative spaces in Timișoara from May to December 2023. The mission of the project is to promote gender equality through film and highlight the work of female writers and directors who have had limited exposure. Through its two sections - one dedicated to teenagers and the other to the general audience - F-SIDES brings to Timișoara a monthly program of art films from all around the world, showcasing new stories about society and contributing to a better understanding of gender equality.
The program dedicated to teenagers will build a community of young people who go through an educational curriculum about feminism illustrated through film, connecting them to European values and expanding their cinematic horizons. The program dedicated to the general audience proposes an intersection between film and literature that puts female authors at the forefront. The short-term section of the program consists of a retrospective of five films by the director and writer Marguerite Duras. The recurring monthly program section has a format of eight themes explored through eight films, and for each of these themes, a Romanian writer will produce an original text as a direct response to the film. The themes of the films reflect the situation of women in creative fields, addressing both the barriers faced by female authors for recognition in the universal canon and the often reductive representation of female characters.
Lastly, the project will be based on an exchange of experiences with the Feminist Film Festival FeFi in Maribor, the former European Capital of Culture in 2012, which will culminate in a public panel discussion on the introduction of an inclusive lens in cultural projects.
