"Liminal - transformative audiovisual space" is a transdisciplinary project organized by the Sensorial Theatre, which uses light as a medium and a leitmotif for the construction of a series of visual and new media art installations, defining an immersive space of playful exploration. The visual experience is skilfully shaped by two other complementary universes, namely the sound composition, which resonates with the vibrant pulse of the installation, and the performative moments of sensorial theatre. All of these aim to create a space of reconnection with the authentic self, using the theraupetic power of sound, light and theatre to set the context of the approach to one's own senses and thus, through carefully chosen and blended artistic methods, lead to a transformational, personal experience for each viewer, each of you who will cross the threshold and enter the Liminal space.
Liminal - a space of transition, a realm suspended between the boundaries of what is and what could be, which as you explore it takes you deeper and deeper into a new dimension of perception, subtly guiding you from the state with which you entered this journey to a state of conscious presence. Here, time unravels its hurried threads and allows you to rest for a few moments in eternity, in this nostalgic, surreal, yet so familiar.
The project involves 3 main facilities: A geodesic dome, which acts as the host space for all the other installations, enhanced by video projections mapped on its exterior, an installation made of fiber optic wires that will recreate the atmosphere of a mystical and illuminated forest, as well as a performative installation that will use sensory theatre techniques to guide you, the participants of the journey, towards a heightened clarity in your own thoughts and emotions, leading to accessing a moment of catharsis, self-acceptance and inner stability.
The main activity of the project is the placement of the dome in the public space of Unirii Square from 30 October to 5 November, which will remain open for visiting and exploring.
In addition to the exciting exhibition, "Liminal" brings together volunteers, Timisoara residents eager to try new activities and the community of lovers of sensory experiences, characteristic of our independent theatre, through a series of closed-circuit workshops co-creating performative theatrical moments.
The project is part of the national cultural Programme “Timișoara - European Capital of Culture 2023” and is funded through the LightFest+ programme, carried out by the Cultural and Art Center of Timiș County, with funds allocated from the state budget through the Ministry of Culture.
