The Lyrical Gang is a pilot project of education through culture. The Association Teatru pentru Tine proposes a unique methodology that transforms the lyrical texts to be studied for the baccalaureate exam into a dramatic text and derivative performance. The Azur Technological High School and the Sports High School, as well as the Education Initiative Association and the Basque Theater join this project. In the two high schools, a Lyrical Gang made up of 8 students, together with 6 Romanian language teachers, will be involved in the process of transforming lyrical texts into dramatic texts that will finally be integrated into a performance.
The project consists of a process that spans rehearsals-workshops with a collaborative and co-creative character. The idea of this project is not accidental, but responds to real and documented problems of the educational system in Romania, but these are also found in society. Unfortunately, young people read poetry less and less, lacking the ability to understand and decode the poetic language, what it conveys. Thus, poetry is the most feared subject in the baccalaureate exam. The aim of the project is to demystify poetry and bring it closer to young people.
This project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara European Capital of Culture in the year 2023" and is financed by the Power Station+ program | Creative schools, run by the Center for Projects Timișoara, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
