The show "African Stories" is based on an African folk tale, "The story of the little girl Nsangi and the hungry chimpanzee", and has been presented in previous years in Sibiu, where it was a real success. This year, in Timisoara, the initiators of the project have decided to broaden the scope of the project to include a much larger number of children (around 500) and teachers.
The project will also have an interactive dimension, with workshops following the performance, coordinated by the actresses in the cast. During these workshops, pupils will learn new things about African culture, identify similarities between the fairy tale presented and other fairy tales from the European continent, more specifically from Romania ("The Goat with Three Little Horses" by Ion Creanga) and Germany ("Little Red Riding Hood" by the Brothers Grimm), thus learning to show openness, tolerance and empathy towards their peers who speak a different language, have a different skin colour and different traditions.
Starting with the show "African Stories" on 5-15 June 2023, students created their own drawings or stories.
Based on the children's creations, in July 2023, the artistic team created a new fairy tale, which blends elements of Romanian and African culture. It will be presented to the public in partner schools according to the following schedule
The City Celebration event | City Celebration, which aims to explore the Timișoara 2023 cultural programme along the Bega River, will host a final performance of "African Tales" on 7 October at 12:00 in the Children's Park.
