BioArt Revolution is a unique exhibition by the British artist Anna Dumitriu, internationally renowned in the field of bioart. The exhibition brings together contemporary artistic perspectives and modern scientific experiments to address global issues such as infection, climate change and diversity.
The title of the exhibition refers to the historic events of 1989, when the spark of the revolution was ignited in Timisoara. Today, we are on the brink of another revolution - one driven by rapid scientific advances. Anna Dumitriu's work offers a fresh perspective on how these technologies will shape our future, often drawing inspiration from science history.
The works in this exhibition are the result of a meticulous process of scientific research and artistic experimentation. They bridge the worlds of science and art in a single creative expression. Anna Dumitriu creates sculptures and installations using biomaterials, including bacteria and DNA, modified vintage objects, 3D printing, textiles and digital art. She also uses modern research methods, such as CRISPR gene editing, to explore issues facing the contemporary world.
The project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the European Echoes Timișoara 2023 programme, implemented by the Center for Projects Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
