After several months of research, graphic and photographic documentation of architectural heritage elements from four distinct cities (Timișoara, Subotica, Szeged and Odesa), we are happy to present the results, materialized through an exhibition of illustrations and photographs, exhibited at FABER.
Curated by Anca Majaru, the exhibition explores - with the means of research and artistic interpretation - the common heritage of four cities separated today not only by borders, but also by economic, social and political pretences.
Starting from the methodology of the Heritage of Timișoara cultural project, through which more than a hundred illustrations of the city's heritage buildings were made, Common Heritage - The Tale of Four Cities continues the tradition of illustrations, this time by international hands.
Eight artists from four different countries (Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Ukraine) used the same architectural elements selected from the research carried out in the four cities and illustrated them through the vision of each one. The artistic interpretations of the 8 artists from Odesa, Subotica, Szeged and Timișoara testify to the common language of European culture and the potential for creative interpretation of cultural heritage.
We have shown you moments from the process and artists' sketches, and now you will have the chance to see the entire series of 80 illustrations, accompanied by photographs taken by Răzvan Iliescu and Vitaly Malitsky, which will exhibit similar or even identical decorative motifs found in the four cities, in an attempt to explore their common heritage.
We are waiting for you at the opening of the Common Heritage exhibition on September 14, from 19:00 at FABER, to discover together the identities of the cities and their belonging to a common culture.
