Timișoara - Guitar Friendly City is a participatory art project with a triple dimension: artistic, cultural, and educational.
The project innovatively leverages the folk-rock musical heritage and multicultural vibrancy of Timișoara to make guitar music and singing more appealing to children and young people, while also engaging and involving the wider public. Built upon three pillars (Learning, Activation, Expression), with specific activities that follow and amplify each other, Timișoara - Guitar Friendly City proposes interventions, cultural mediation, and informal learning actions aimed at constructing an umbrella identity for the city. This identity connects its multicultural legacy with the European dimension through guitar and folk-rock culture.
The project aims to create an original cultural product that provides the community with a unique cultural-identity perspective. It also aims to strengthen the city's openness to the dialogue among artists, citizens, and the public, as well as towards the European space: the identity of "Timișoara Guitar Friendly City."
The project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Grow Timișoara 2023 programme, implemented by the Center for Projects Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
