Footage from Romania, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania (Zanzibar).
The protagonists are six young actors, with their thoughts, their dreams and their hopes.
The topics debated are: reasons to stay in the country vs reasons to emigrate, attachment and love for the Romanian language vs acceptance of the uniqueness of all 7,138 languages spoken on planet Earth; but not only.
The film's script knots the personal experiences of the artists involved with the general human ones into a puzzle that ends with a simple conclusion: "Uhuru! Blessed be life!"
A film produced by Bis Teatru with the support of the Ministry of Culture in January 2022.
"UHURU! Freedom! This audio-visual performance is free, so free. It disavows the previous parts of the trilogy BORN IN ROMANIA, but at the same time it encompasses them. It doesn't follow any dramatic or aesthetic rules, because it simply doesn't have time for that. But it flows. It flows from us, from each of the seven artists who bring it to life. Artists from two continents so far apart, yet so close when it comes to the emotion conveyed by the WORD, the pure word born of raw, shattering personal experiences. It's the unwritten way to cherish the Romanian language, to wonder how we stay in this country, how we keep coming back. It's a disjointed, bold, exotic performance that lives dangerously somewhere between the physical and metaphysical worlds, somewhere between poetry, theatre (perhaps less theatre this time) and intimate, personal depths. Uhuru! Blessed be life!" (Bogdan Sărătean, director)
