Cultural Programme

Following the winning of the title in 2016, Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture Association began to implement a cultural program, assuming the mission of actively contributing to the valorization of Timișoara's identity, diversity, creativity, and cultural avant-garde as engines for sustainable community development.

The European Capital of Culture is a whole process, not just an event. So, through the innovative cultural programme prepared for the year 2023, we will have a transformative journey mapped around three main territories and one complementary territory dedicated for capacity building.

1. People -> is the essence of the community through which we aim to unlock civic energy, encourage both critical thinking and free expression, and showcase the inner light based on our common human culture - those daily habits, forgotten dreams, collective joys and fears.
2. Places -> As the city embodies a culture of unity, solidarity, and consensus, we intend to revitalize the public space, with a transparent decision-making process regarding balanced and fair urban development, calling for the involvement of the residents.
3. Connections -> It unites People - both the citizens of Timișoara, as well as those from Europe and around the world - and Places, preparing the city for shared experiences from the regional and transnational dimensions, with the aim of redefining Timișoara's international profile in an all-encompassing consensus.
4. Power Station -> is a central and cross-cutting point in the architecture of the cultural program and is implemented by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara. Power Station stimulates cooperation, the development of skills and competencies of individuals, organizations, and institutions, as well as the local cultural ecosystem as a whole. It consists of funding programs managed by the Project Center of the Municipality and events and projects that strategically contribute to the capacity-building of the cultural sector.

Along our cultural journey, each territory will host stations (programs) and trails (projects and focused programs).
