Luminiţa Alexandru is a Romanian writer and edutainer, and a member of SCBWI - the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She made her debut with a collection of poems in 1985 in the "Ateneu" literary magazine and later, in 2014, published a storybook in English, "Yummy Stories."
She has published poetry, short stories, and essays in cultural and literary publications such as "Zburătorul," "Timpul," "Calende," "Caiete botoşănene," "Arca," "Porni Luceafărul," and "Dilema". She served as a literary correspondent for "Zburătorul" and was one of the creative forces behind the student newspaper "Ore studenţeşti" and the cultural supplement "Axis," both publications for students in Iași.
Luminiţa gained further experience in journalism through her work as an editor at the "Opinia" newspaper and the "Impact" weekly in Iași. She also worked as a radio show host at "RTV Europa Nova" Iași and as a music business consultant for "Capital". She collaborated with FHM magazine and later developed several cultural management projects. During her time in the showbiz industry, she produced hundreds of unique events and served as the brand manager for the band Mandinga.
As a scriptwriter, she created 14 audiobooks and several educational animated series. She also wrote the script for the successful show "Mandinga & Friends" which was presented at the Bulandra Theater in 2005. Since 2022, she has been writing scripts for comic books. Her comic book album "Zgripţuroiul din dulap (şi alte fabulaţii)," created in collaboration with Alexandru Ciubotariu (Pisica Pătrată), is scheduled to be launched in Timişoara on November 18, 2023.
In the field of children's literature, Luminiţa Alexandru has published 9 books and has many other projects in the works. Her first children’s book, "Yummy Stories / Poftă de poveşti" (Create Space / Copilul Verde, 2014), received international recognition and was exhibited at the Miami Book Fair. "Barbazuc, magicianul cuvintelor" (Copilul Verde, 2019) represents the first Romanian personal development kit for children, and "Un puşti genial şi un porc cu papion" (Shelfie, 2022) is the first Romanian hybrid graphic novel. Luminiţa also authored the first professional guide to the Romanian music industry, titled "Tot ce trebuie să știi despre industria muzicală din România" (Box Office, 2001), and contributed to the collective volume "Mass media și educația" (Spiru Haret, 1996).
She has received numerous awards, including Best Picture Book (Ages 4-8) at the Beverly Hills International Book Awards in 2015, a Silver Medal (Children – Educational) at the Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards in 2015, and various national literary prizes.
In addition to her literary contributions, Luminiţa Alexandru has dedicated herself to education, bringing innovation to the learning process. As an edutainer, she has conducted numerous experiential learning, creativity, storytelling, and journalism workshops in kindergartens, schools, and camps.
Luminiţa's latest project is the "Bookmaking Extravaganza," a unique pop-up show created in collaboration with the illustrator Alexandru Ciubotariu. The two artists aim to rekindle children's love for reading by creating entertaining books and engaging events. They have several other books in the works set to be launched in 2024.
