FAST: (The) Festival for Architecture Schools of Tomorrow connects and mobilizes all 5 architecture schools in the country: Timișoara, Cluj, Oradea, Iași, and Bucharest and extends the network of cooperation regionally, through invited schools of architecture from neighboring countries – Serbia, Hungary, Moldova, Ukraine.

The first edition is hosted by Timișoara, the European Capital of Culture in 2023, and draws attention at the national and regional level to the themes derived from the Sustainable Development Goals of the 17th UIA World Congress, whose patronage - alongside that of To the European Parliament - honour the festival.

The central theme – Sustainable Futures, Leave No One Behind – crosses all three main sections of the festival: EXHIBITIONS, CONFERENCES, ACTIVATIONS.

The main exhibition "Sustainable futures X 5", centered on teaching methodologies, presents various ways in which the objective of sustainability - ecological, economic, cultural and social - is visible in the results of the five schools of architecture in Romania.

The TALKS section – debates and conferences with renowned international guests hosted by the National Opera in Timișoara – encourages exchanges between the fields of architectural education and professional practice in Romania, as well as current international methodologies and design approaches that focus on social and environmental sustainability. Among the speakers will be: Lyndon NERI & Rossana HU, Natalie Mossin, Oana Stanescu, Quintus Miller, Walter Angonese

The main space of the festival - the Campus of the Politechnica University of Timișoara (UPT) - will be activated by means of 5 architectural installations built by the schools' teams: various responses to the main themes of the first edition of FAST. The resulting pavilion remains as a landmark, exhibition and socializing space of the UPT Campus.

A series of related events, carried out in partnership, will enliven Timișoara and the UPT Campus throughout the duration of the festival.

Every year, FAST will go further in another central academic city in Romania and address new topics relevant locally and regionally for the future of the profession.
