”Initiative in Education” Association, together with its partners, is glad to invite you to the opening of the exhibition Space Posters – Art and Space in History, on Wednesday, August 30, from 18:00!
The exhibition proposes a foray into the world of space program promotion and propaganda posters, through a selection that is intended to be as diverse and comprehensive as possible.
From posters from the "space race" period to contemporary ones, curators tried to capture the most relevant styles and themes, both on aesthetic criteria and from the point of view of the intended message.
Art as a means of communication, promotion and propaganda in the aerospace industry has a past and a path closely intertwined with the history of the conquest of space from its beginnings. The main players in the "space race", the USA and the USSR, as well as the other nations involved in space activities, used and continue to use the impact of visual communication through the characteristic elements of graphics.
Although it migrated to virtual platforms and it’s less used in actual print today, in the digital age, the poster remains a "tool" for the promotion and dissemination of information with a significant impact, the recognition of whose qualities is evidenced by the fact that all the major space agencies of the world continue to use it.
Our guest will be 𝐀lec 𝐁a𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐬, award-winning stamp setter, internationally acclaimed painter and designer. Alec Bartos is currently the president of the Astrophilately Commission of the Romanian Philatelic Federation and co-opted member of the astrophilately section of the International Philatelic Federation (FIP).
A lifelong artist, he discovered his fascination with space and combined it with an interest in philately from an early age. He became a member of the Romanian Philatelic Federation at the age of seven and he has modeled all space-related philatelic issues of the Romanian Post from 2007 to the present, as well as postcards, postage stamps, and other stamps with different themes, such as flowers, wildlife, history, nature or the youth olympics.
The exhibition will take place between August 30 and September 15 and will host guided tours, events and educational workshops for students, teachers and the entire community of Timișoara.
