Ioana Țurcan works at the intersection of film, interdisciplinary arts and cultural production with formal education in film and television cinematography (BA), documentary film (MA) and film/video production (MFA), the latter of which she completed on a Fulbright Fellowship at Syracuse University, NY.
Ioana has also worked with experimental formats and performative media, creating exhibitions for galleries and public spaces on various themes related to ecosystems such as landscape connections, family ties, and the process of uncertain loss.
In recent years, Ioana has co-developed local initiatives to promote access to visual/artistic education and cultural production, facilitating workshops in analog photography, creative writing, contact sports and film production.
Since 2021 she has been part of a duo called Uncertain Space, which tackles issues of care, ritual and physical dependency, and a transnational artist collective, an office, present this year at Documenta 15 (Germany) and Fotograf Festival (Czech Republic).
She has collaborated with various visual artists and filmmakers, creating for a variety of mediums, from galleries, cinemas and public spaces. She has initiated, coordinated and participated in various alternative education projects and is part of the transnational collective an office, present in 2022 at Documenta15.
