The 20 panels of the German exhibition contain photographs and images from those days, as well as many historical documents, included in a rich explanatory text, each panel illustrating one of the aspects of the important historical event: "The political system of the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) / DDR", "The fight against the church - the persecution of the faithful youth 1952-1953", "Economy - socialism enters the crisis", "Socialist experiments in the country", "Costly militarization", "Forgotten workers", "From strike to popular revolt" ", "Berlin in revolt", "On the brink of a revolution - the GDR on June 17", "Thuringia - the green heart of Germany in the popular revolt", "The new course", "Fights in the Gera district", "The hot spot of popular uprising: Jena", "State of emergency in Jena", "Strike in the Erfurt district", "Erfurt district - We want to be free peasants!", "Incidents in the Suhl district", "The revenge and trauma of the SED", " The legacy of the revolt".

The entire dramatic unfolding of the events of the summer of 1953 is reconstructed in this way, culminating on June 17, 1953, in Berlin but also in the other centers of the anti-communist and anti-Soviet revolt, most of them located in the state of Thuringia. It is the first major revolt of workers and ordinary people from the socialist camp, the first "cry for freedom", which will be followed later by the moments of Budapest 1956, Prague 1968, Poland - the beginning of the 70s and the 80s, Romania 1977 and 1987, culminating in the revolutionary year 1989, throughout Eastern Europe.

The itinerant exhibition Cry for Freedom – June 17, 1953 in Thuringia is made by the Ettersberg Foundation, a German institution aiming at the comparative research of European dictatorships, in collaboration with the Jena Institute of History. The conception belongs to Alexander Reich, from Erfurt, and the scientific processing is signed by Dr. Ehrhart Neubert. The translation into Romanian of the explanatory text was provided by Adina Hornea. The Ettersberg Foundation is an institution that deals with historical and cultural research, with the main object of study being the communist and post-communist transformations in the German state of Thuringia. The presence in Romania of the exhibition made by the German historians is possible thanks to the close collaboration with the Revolution Memorial in Timisoara, also materialized in other cultural exchanges on both sides.
