A unique event in the Romanian publishing landscape!
The launch of the "Brancusi: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives" catalog will take place on Saturday, September 30, between 16:00 and 17:00, in the Baroque Hall of the Timișoara National Museum of Art.
The event will host a discussion between Doina Lemny, curator of the Brancusi exhibition and the catalog's editorial coordinator, and Daria Ghiu, art historian and radio journalist.
Those interested can already order the exhibition's catalog from its dedicated website (brancusi-2023.info) and the website of La Două Bufnițe bookstore (ladouabufnite.ro). It can also be purchased physically on the day of the launch, September 30, from the National Museum of Art in Timișoara and other bookstores in the country.
The bilingual volume, Romanian-English, is coordinated by Doina Lemny, a renowned specialist in the work and life of the great sculptor, and represents a genuine working tool complementary to the exhibition. The catalog reproduces 190 images of Constantin Brancusi's sculptures, drawings, and photographs alongside documentary photos, such as those from the construction of the Endless Column.
"Brancusi: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives" is a long-awaited publication in the Romanian cultural landscape, as well as an ideal guide that helps a more detailed understanding of the Brancusi universe, offering a new and updated perspective on the work of one of the most important sculptors of 20th century.
The volume also brings together a series of original texts from Romanian, French, and English art historians: Ioana Vlasiu, Elena-Bobi Dumitrescu, Matthew Gale, Ariane Coulondre, David Grob, Doina Lemny, Cristian-Robert Velescu, Mica Gherghescu, Valerie Loth, Georges Banu, Sorana Georgescu-Gorjan, with translations by Mirela Iacob and Samuel Onn. The 16 essays gathered here are dedicated to Constantin Brancusi's creation, from the works completed in the period 1907–1914 to the Bird in Space, which caused a famous trial against the United States (1926–1928), and to the construction of the monumental ensemble in Târgu Jiu (1937–1938). Some of these texts emphasize the essential role played by photography and film in the artist's creation and reception.
