Mynewplay? was initially planned to be an (anti)performative (pseudo) lecture delivered to an audience gathered around an empty stage. But the coronavirus crisis forced playwright Peca Ștefan to transform it into a creative process, a series of online meetings where the text gradually modified based on inputs from the public, similarly to the development of standup material. Eventually, the resulted text became the offline version of the piece, which can be now be experienced as originally intended.
In Mynewplay? (offline) Peca self-ironically explores what should not miss from his new play. While telling the story of his many abandoned new plays, failed because of different pressures and self-induced guilt, the author tries to find the perfect subject for his new play that could end up on stage with the help of the inputs gathered from the spectators who become partners in his process. “Will this encounter generate a new play by the end of the evening?”. This is the major dramatic question.
This public event is part of the activities of the Workshop of Errors, created and led by the playwright, during which 5 local artists from Timișoara meet for a week in order to generate new project ideas, investigating the role of errors in their creative process and relationship to their audience.
This artistic creation was produced with the support of an Energie! Creative Grant awarded by the Municipality of Timișoara, through the Center for Projects, within the Power Station component of the National Cultural Programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in the year 2023".
