Tom Russotti is a visual artist and educator from New York, USA. He is the founder of The Institute for Aesthletics, a platform that organizes and promotes sport as an art form. He has collaborated with schools and universities in the US and Europe and art institutions such as SFMOMA San Francisco, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art and Tate Modern in London.
Tom Russotti, together with the Institute for Athletics (a play on words between aesthetics and athletics), are recognized worldwide for non-competitive sports that provide the opportunity for continuous collaborative interactions.
In his interventions during the Football championship in Traian, Tom gives a carnival touch to the whole event – a temporary abandonment of everyday individuality and experiencing a sense of social unity. The football field thus becomes, in turn, the setting for an invented game and an original dance competition.
Tom Russotti was a guest of the Jakab Toffler House in the Social Fabric residency series.
