The LGBTQI+ community has been subjected to invisibility for ideological reasons and continues to suffer from systemic discrimination nowadays as well. The “(In)visible histories” project is both a recovery of the histories of the LGBTQI+ community through documentation, making personal archives visible and through collaborations with other queer archives in Europe, but also a response to the approaches and discussions about censorship we face in the present context of polarising debates in the political, social and even cultural-artistic sphere.
Art and culture are powerful tools to tell our stories, to develop our community and group identity in a society that forces us to be our own historians and in which we must fight for visibility.
The proposed events bring to the stages in the western part of the country interdisciplinary exhibitions with an international character, premiere cultural productions and manifesto performances aimed at deconstructing stereotypes and putting us face to face with our own local and national identity.
This project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in the year 2023" and is funded by the City of Timișoara, through the Center for Projects.
