The project Let's bring the voice of the Roma people to the European Capital of Culture Timișoara 2023 aims to change the narrative on Roma inclusion in Romania by organising two events within the Timișoara 2023 European Capital of Culture program.
Our project aims to highlight the cultural production of the Roma to underline their contribution to society. To address the total lack or secondary status of Roma-led art institutions and the discrimination of Roma in all areas of life, ERIAC will contribute to the Chronic Pain, Chronic Desire exhibition to highlight the excellence of Roma’s artistic production in the general context.
Within the exhibition Chronic Pain, Chronic Desire - Aspirations (Respirations) Chroniques, ERIAC intends to present works by Sead Kazanxhiu from Albania and Mihaela Cimpeanu from Romania. The second contribution is an anti-gypsyism conference organised in partnership with the Intercultural Institute of Timișoara.
The expertise of internationally recognized specialists in critical race studies, specifically anti-gypsyism, will contribute to the debate on this topic in Romania. Combining the two elements of our contribution to the Timișoara 2023 European Capital of Culture program can maximise the level of information and ensure that the program reaches a diverse audience.
Proiectul face parte din Programul cultural național „Timișoara – Capitală Europeană a Culturii în anul 2023” și este finanțat de Municipiul Timișoara prin Centrul de Proiecte.
