We want to work and create together with artists and photographers from Timișoara!

The HEI - House of European Institutes team has been following over the years a long series of photographs capturing the beauty of Timișoara, images exhibited online.

With the generous space of the Theresia Bastion at our disposal, we now have the opportunity to be physically present in Timișoara and connect with photographers we have only been able to admire from afar.

Therefore, we launch today the invitation to emerging artists interested in images to sign up for the Urban Photography Workshop with Ioana Cîrlig!

Over two days, 1st and 2nd of July, together with photographer Ioana Cîrlig, you will explore urban nature landscapes in different contexts. Ioana has also documented the Circular Catalysts residencies and comes with an extensive nature-inspired practice.

Cities are getting increasingly overheated and unfriendly, but we can relearn to connect with nature by focusing our attention on plants growing, sometimes incredibly in and among concrete, urban nature, representations of urban gardens in art, etc.

There is no age limit for participation. The most important aspect of being selected is that your photographs reveal something that contemporary people, often weighed down by the daily routine, no longer see.

To enter the selection process, please send between three and five photos of your work, whatever the theme, to cirligioana@gmail.com.  Please also attach a short autobiography of no more than 200 words. Deadline for accepting entries for our urban nature workshop: 24 June 2023, 12:00.

Schedule of the Urban Nature Photography Workshop with Ioana Cîrlig

Day I, July 1st:

Time 1 July: Meet&Greet at a café - Ioana Cîrlig and participants.

Hour 13:00: Presentation of emblematic projects gathered from around the world about urban nature, examples of plant portraits, representations of urban gardens in art and many other images that will delight the photographer's eye of the participants.

In the second part of the day, when the light reaches its peak of beauty, we take a walk along the Bega River to carry out the practical part of the Urban Nature Photography Workshop.

Day II, 2nd July:

9:00 am: We meet again at HEI - House of European Institutes, present the photographs taken on the first day of the workshop, make a selection and discuss together what we captured and what we felt.

The selection will then be turned into a zine.
