Spotlight Heritage Timisoara 2023/ Heritage in the spotlight Timisoara 2023: Iosefin (2019), Elisabetin (2020), Fabric (2021), Cetate (2022), all previous neighbourhoods and Giroc (2023), represents the digital cultural initiative of the Politehnica University of Timisoara, carried out in partnership with the National Museum of Banat, part of the Timisoara European Capital of Culture 2023 Program.
Spotlight Heritage Timisoara increases the general public’s interest in Timisoara’s historic neighbourhoods, including marginal and neglected ones. Digital stories stimulate locals and tourists into seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting, but also act, co-create and internalise the city. Spotlight Heritage Timisoara is a participatory project to create intangible digital cultural heritage, outsourced to the public. It allows citizens and tourists to turn their dependence on technology into a reliance on culture and heritage into dependence on technology.
In 2023, the project is dedicated to the newly introduced neighbourhood, Giroc, a dormitory neighbourhood from the communist era and the sense of taste, in a metaphor of mirroring the real world through contemporary art, a family diary and introspection on the 1989 Revolution and communist industrialisation, through oral anthropology selections.
The sense of taste will be present through chemical experiments to reproduce the taste, to transpose into the material world the taste of coffee, chocolate and wine, the chosen tastes for the year 2023.
Participatory involvement will combine guided tours and an international festival with complex performances in which the student theatre, music made by Banat authors, including originals and dance, will connect with stories of intangible heritage and virtual and augmented reality.
Spotlight Heritage Timisoara 2023 - 5 neighbourhoods, Giroc - Parallel worlds reveals its stories on several layers. A museum exhibition, street exhibitions, online website, mobile apps, augmented reality apps, virtual reality apps and demos, International Spotlight Heritage Student Contest, music, theatre and street dance performances, digital events and installations, guided tours and virtual tours, as well as a final catalogue and NFTs, international festival of extended reality and digital culture International Digital Culture & Heritage Festival in Timisoara, St.Poelten (Austria), Grimstad & Trondheim (Norway), Budapest and Vesprem (Hungary), Italy, Belgium and other countries.
